
How I Automated 80 AI Newsletter Writers
Each of my 80+ AI agents publishes its own newsletter — with a unique voice, on a schedule, monetized through Stripe. Here's the automation behind it.

Why Should You Care?
What if every AI agent on your platform could write and publish its own newsletter — automatically?
Not “paste a ChatGPT response into Mailchimp” automated. I mean: a cron job fires at 6 AM, checks which agents are due to publish, generates content in each agent’s unique voice, renders it to HTML, publishes it to a live blog page, emails subscribers a notification, and logs the whole run — without me being awake.
I built this for SouthernSky Chat, a platform hosting 80+ AI agents. A Baptist scholar publishes on Sundays. An astrologer forecasts every Monday. A Wiccan priestess writes around the lunar cycle. A master electrician files a field report every two weeks. Each one sounds different, cites different sources, follows a different structural pattern, and lands in subscriber inboxes on its own schedule.
I have already written about the prompt engine that generates the content — the 5-stage pipeline that turns a generic meta-prompt into something worth reading. This post covers the other half: the infrastructure that makes 80 newsletters run on autopilot. Scheduling, email delivery, subscription billing, rate limiting, and the orchestration layer that ties it all together.

The newsletter service runs inside market-data-service, a Node.js container deployed on a VPS. I chose to extend an existing service rather than spin up a new container — it already had Grok, Resend, Stripe, and Supabase integrations wired up. Starting from scratch would have meant re-implementing authentication, webhook handling, and deployment scripts I already had working.
That decision to extend rather than extract is a real tradeoff. The market-data-service was originally built for a single financial newsletter. Adding 80 more agents to it means the codebase has two concerns — market data and agent newsletters — sharing the same process. I will extract agent newsletters into a standalone service when the complexity justifies it, but for an MVP launch, reuse beats purity every time.
n8n: The Scheduling Layer
n8n is a self-hosted workflow automation tool. Think Zapier, but you own the server. My instance runs on the same VPS as everything else.
The scheduling problem is straightforward in theory and annoying in practice. Eighty agents publish on different cadences — weekly, biweekly, monthly — on different days of the week, at different times. Some agents publish on Sundays (the Christian scholars). Some publish on Fridays (the Islamic and Jewish agents, aligned with Jumu’ah and Shabbat). The astrologer publishes Monday mornings. Monthly agents fire on the first of the month.
I considered two approaches: one n8n workflow per agent (simple but 80 workflows to manage), or one master workflow that checks a schedule database. I went with the master workflow.
The Master Workflow
A single n8n workflow fires every day at 06:00 UTC. It hits one API endpoint:

That endpoint checks the newsletter_agents table in Supabase and returns every agent whose send_day matches today’s day of the week and whose cadence interval has elapsed since their last published edition. The response looks like this:

On a typical Sunday, 6-8 agents are due. On a typical Tuesday, maybe 2. The master workflow loops through the list and calls the generation endpoint for each one:

The 15-second wait between agents is critical. Without it, if 8 agents are due on Sunday, the workflow fires 8 Grok API calls simultaneously. Grok handles concurrent requests, but the content generation pipeline makes 5 sequential API calls per agent (research, outline, draft, edit, quality gate). Eight agents times five calls is 40 API requests in seconds. The wait node spaces them out to roughly one agent per 30-45 seconds, keeping the pipeline well under rate limits.
The Monday Digest
A second n8n workflow handles the weekly digest — a summary email sent to bundle subscribers every Monday at 14:00 UTC. It calls a single endpoint:

That endpoint queries all posts published in the last 7 days, assembles a “This Week at SouthernSky” email with a card for each post (agent name, title, reading time, teaser), and sends it through Resend. Bundle subscribers get one email that links out to 5-12 new posts, instead of getting hammered with individual alerts all week.
The Generation Endpoint
When n8n calls POST /newsletters/admin/generate/{agentId}, here is what happens inside the service:
Step 1: Load Agent Config
The service pulls the agent’s full configuration from Supabase — system prompt, voice profile, structural pattern, domain keywords, calendar sources, related agents, and the “golden paragraphs” that anchor the agent’s voice.

Step 2: Assemble Context
This is where the newsletter gets grounded in reality. The service makes parallel calls to gather fresh context:

Each data source serves a different purpose:

Calendar data keeps content timely. The Rabbi’s newsletter references this week’s Torah portion (parashat hashavua) from the Hebcal API. The Islamic agents reference the Hijri date from the Aladhan API. The astrologer gets planetary positions from an ephemeris. Without this, every edition would feel generic — “timeless wisdom” instead of “what matters this specific week.”

Grok web search injects current events. The electrician agent gets recent NEC code updates. The cybersecurity analyst gets this week’s CVE disclosures. Grok’s search mode provides live web access, which is non-negotiable for anything claiming to be a newsletter.

Past posts prevent repetition. If Trinity wrote about perseverance last week, the context injection includes her last 3 titles so the pipeline steers toward fresh ground.

Cross-agent posts enable one of the most powerful engagement drivers in the system: agents referencing each other. When the Rabbi writes about the binding of Isaac, the context might include a recent post from Trinity on the same passage from a Christian perspective. The prompt encourages the Rabbi to acknowledge it: “As my colleague Trinity noted in her recent reflection…” This creates a web of cross-references that drives subscribers to discover new agents.
Step 3: Run the 5-Stage Pipeline
The content generation itself is a 5-stage Grok API pipeline. I covered this in detail in the prompt engine post, so I will not repeat the mechanics here. The key point for infrastructure is that each agent’s newsletter requires 5 sequential API calls:
- Research — topic discovery with web search
- Outline — structure planning using the agent’s tradition-specific pattern
- Draft — full content generation in the agent’s voice
- Edit — voice refinement and factual accuracy check
- Quality gate — automated scoring; publish if all dimensions score 6+, otherwise flag for review
Five calls per agent means ~$0.18 in Grok API costs per edition. Across 80 agents averaging 4 editions per month, that is roughly $58/month in generation costs — a fraction of what even one human writer would cost.
Step 4: Publish to Supabase
Once the quality gate passes, the post is inserted into the newsletter_posts table:

A Postgres trigger handles the paywall logic automatically. When a new post is published, it marks that post as free and removes the free flag from the previous latest post. This means visitors can always read the most recent edition for free, but the archive is gated behind a subscription. The trigger looks like this:

Putting this in a trigger instead of application code is a deliberate choice. If I ever publish a post from a different code path — a manual admin tool, a migration script, a future mobile app — the paywall logic still fires. Database-level invariants beat application-level checks for anything that must always be true.
Resend: The Email Delivery Layer
After the post is published and live on the web, the service sends email alerts to subscribers.
The key design decision: emails are notifications, not content. The email contains the post title, a 2-3 sentence teaser, and a “Read on SouthernSky” button that links to the web page. The full post lives on southernsky.cloud/newsletters/{agentId}/posts/{slug}, not in the email body.
This is intentional for three reasons. First, rich HTML email rendering is a nightmare — Outlook strips external CSS, Gmail clips long messages, every client handles images differently. By keeping the email lightweight, I avoid all of those rendering bugs. Second, driving traffic to the website means every reader sees the paywall CTA, the subscribe button, the “chat with this agent” link, and the upgrade banner. Third, published web pages are shareable — subscribers can send a permalink on social media, which free email content cannot do.
The alert email is sent through Resend using a verified sender domain (mail.southernsky.cloud). Each agent sends from its own address:

Subscriber Routing
Not every subscriber gets every email. The routing logic queries three groups:
- Individual subscribers — people paying $2.99/month for this specific agent. They always get alerts for their subscribed agents.
- Bundle subscribers with per-agent alerts enabled. They have access to everything, but they choose which agents send them individual notifications.
- Bundle subscribers who chose “digest only” — they do not get individual alerts. They get the Monday digest instead.
The service deduplicates across these groups before sending. A subscriber who has both an individual subscription to Trinity and a bundle subscription should not get two emails.

Batch Sending with Resend
Resend supports batch sending — one API call for up to 100 recipients. For agents with more than 100 subscribers, the service chunks the list:

Stripe: Monetizing 80 Newsletters
The pricing model uses three tiers designed around the decoy effect:

The Pick 5 tier is the decoy. At $9.99, it is better than buying 4 agents individually ($11.96), but worse than the bundle once you want more than 7 agents ($20.93). Its purpose is to make the $19.99 bundle look like an obvious upgrade — “just $10 more for 75 more newsletters plus chat access.”
Stripe Product Setup
Eighty individual agents means 80 Stripe products, each with a $2.99 monthly price. I did not create these manually. A setup script iterates through the agent roster and calls the Stripe API:

The bundle product and the Pick 5 product are created separately since they have different checkout flows — the bundle auto-provisions a chat.southernsky.cloud account, and Pick 5 requires a selection UI.
Webhook Handling
Stripe communicates subscription state changes through webhooks. The service listens for four events:

The checkout.session.completed handler is the most complex. For individual subscriptions, it creates a subscriber record and adds a row to the newsletter_agent_subscriptions junction table. For bundle subscriptions, it also provisions an Open WebUI account via the chat platform’s API, so the subscriber can immediately start chatting with agents. That provisioning step sends a welcome email with their chat credentials — a second email, separate from the newsletter system, using the same Resend integration.
Voice at Scale: 80 Different Writers
The hardest part of this system is not the infrastructure — it is making 80 newsletters sound like 80 different people. Without deliberate voice control, every agent would produce the same ChatGPT-style prose: “In this week’s edition, we’ll explore…” followed by five paragraphs of interchangeable, voice-neutral filler.
Each agent has a voice_profile stored as JSONB in the newsletter_agents table. The profile is detailed and specific. Here is a simplified example of what the Rabbi’s profile encodes:
- Sentence style: Long, complex, with layered interpretation and rhetorical questions
- Vocabulary tier: Scholarly, with Hebrew terms (halakha, midrash, teshuvah) used naturally
- Emotional register: Warm
- Citation format:

Compare that with the master electrician:
- Sentence style: Short, declarative, with cautionary emphasis
- Vocabulary tier: Accessible, with trade terms (GFCI, AFCI, ampacity, romex)
- Emotional register: Authoritative
- Citation format:

These are not cosmetic decorations. They are injected into every stage of the generation pipeline. When the Rabbi’s newsletter is being drafted, the model sees the midrashic commentary structure with specific word targets per section, the Hebrew terms it should use naturally, the citation format it must follow. When the electrician’s newsletter is being drafted, it sees the field report structure, the NEC citation format, and the “war story from a real job” opening pattern.
The Golden Paragraphs System
Voice profiles describe what an agent should sound like. Golden paragraphs show it. For each agent, I generated 5 test editions, read them, and hand-picked the 3-5 paragraphs that most authentically captured that agent’s voice. These are stored in a golden_paragraphs array and injected as few-shot examples during the drafting stage.
LLMs are excellent style-matchers. Telling a model to “be warm and scholarly” produces inconsistent results. Showing it three paragraphs that are warm and scholarly, then saying “match this quality and voice,” produces remarkably consistent output. The golden paragraphs are the single biggest lever for voice consistency at scale.
Voice Drift Prevention
Even with profiles and golden paragraphs, voice drifts over time. Subtle shifts in phrasing, a gradual flattening of personality, an increasing reliance on the same sentence structures. Every 10 editions, the system runs a voice consistency audit — a Grok API call that compares recent paragraphs against the golden paragraphs and scores consistency across four dimensions: sentence structure, vocabulary tier, emotional register, and citation style. If any dimension drops below 7 out of 10, the system flags the agent for human review and suggests profile adjustments.
Scale Challenges: What Breaks at 80
Running one newsletter is a weekend project. Running 80 newsletters introduces problems that do not exist at smaller scale.
API Rate Limiting
Eighty agents, each requiring 5 Grok API calls per edition. On a peak Sunday when 8 agents are due, that is 40 sequential API calls in a single workflow run. The 15-second pause between agents in the n8n workflow keeps each run under rate limits, but it means a full Sunday batch takes about 6 minutes to complete. If a batch fails midway through — a transient API error, a timeout — the workflow needs to resume from where it stopped, not restart from the beginning. The service tracks which agents were successfully generated in each run and skips them on retry.
Staggered Scheduling
Publishing all weekly agents on Monday morning would create a terrible subscriber experience — 12 emails hitting inboxes simultaneously. The calendar is deliberately spread:

This is not just about email fatigue. It is about respect for the traditions the agents represent. The Imam publishes on Fridays because Jumu’ah is the Islamic day of congregational prayer. The Rabbi publishes on Friday evening because Shabbat begins at sunset. The astrologer publishes on Monday because a weekly forecast is only useful at the start of the week. The scheduling is not an implementation detail — it is a product decision.
81 Stripe Products
Stripe handles 81 products without issue, but managing them is a different story. When I adjust pricing, add a new agent, or deprecate an old one, I need to update the Stripe product, the Supabase config, and the checkout flow. A setup script handles product creation, but updates are more nuanced — you cannot change the price of an existing Stripe subscription without migrating current subscribers to the new price. For now, price changes only apply to new subscribers.
Content Moderation at Scale
Eighty AI-generated newsletters covering religion, the occult, parapsychology, and financial markets — that is a content moderation challenge. The quality gate (Stage 5 of the generation pipeline) catches the most obvious failures: factually dubious claims, voice drift, generic output. But AI-generated religious content at scale deserves periodic human review. I spot-check 5-10 newsletters per week, rotating through categories. The system logs every generated edition with full pipeline metadata — if a subscriber reports an issue, I can trace exactly what context and prompts produced the problematic content.
Database Design for Multi-Tenant Content
The newsletter_posts table stores every edition from every agent in a single table, partitioned by agent_id. At 80 agents averaging 4 editions per month, that is 320 new rows per month. After a year, roughly 3,800 posts. Not large by database standards, but queries need to be efficient — the public hub page queries all agents’ latest posts, the agent page queries one agent’s archive, and the search endpoint queries across everything.

The search_vector column is a generated column — Postgres rebuilds it automatically whenever the post content changes. Weighted search means a title match ranks higher than a body match, which feels natural in search results.
The Blog-First Model
A deliberate product decision that shaped the entire architecture: content lives on the web, not in email inboxes. Each agent gets a blog-style page at southernsky.cloud/newsletters/{agentId} with a latest post, an archive list, subscriber count, and subscribe/upgrade CTAs. Individual posts get permalink pages with clean typography, prev/next navigation, and social sharing buttons.
Email is the notification layer that drives traffic to the web. This is the opposite of how most newsletters work (email is the product, web archive is an afterthought), and it matters for three reasons:

SEO. Every free post is a public, indexable web page. Eighty agents publishing weekly means hundreds of content pages per year, all targeting long-tail keywords in their respective domains.

Conversion. When a reader lands on a post page, they see the subscribe button, the upgrade banner, the “chat with this agent” CTA, and the archive paywall. An email sitting in an inbox has none of those conversion surfaces.

Shareability. A subscriber can share a permalink on social media. “Check out what Trinity wrote about perseverance this week” is a link their friends can click and read — and potentially subscribe from. You cannot do that with an email body.
The free/paywalled split is simple: the latest post from each agent is always free. The archive requires a subscription. This gives every visitor a taste of what the agent produces, and the archive paywall is the natural next step for anyone who wants more.
Cost Model
Running 80 newsletters is cheaper than you might expect:

Break-even at the $19.99 bundle tier is 6 subscribers. At the $2.99 individual tier, it is 35 subscribers. The gross margin at any meaningful scale is north of 75%, because the costs are almost entirely fixed — adding the 81st agent costs another $0.72/month in Grok API calls, not another salary.
What You Learned

One master n8n workflow beats 80 individual ones. A single daily cron that queries a “due now” endpoint scales to any number of agents without multiplying workflows.

Rate-limit pauses between agents are not optional. At 5 API calls per agent, a batch of 8 agents means 40 API requests. A 15-second inter-agent pause keeps you well under limits and costs 2 minutes of wall-clock time.

Email is a notification layer, not the product. Publishing to web pages first and sending lightweight email alerts drives SEO, enables social sharing, and puts conversion CTAs in front of every reader.

Voice profiles plus golden paragraphs produce consistent, distinct output. Abstract instructions (“be scholarly”) drift. Concrete examples (“match these 3 paragraphs”) anchor the voice across hundreds of editions.

Database triggers enforce business rules better than application code. The “latest post is always free” invariant is guaranteed by a Postgres trigger, not by hoping every code path remembers to set the flag.

The decoy effect works in subscription pricing. The Pick 5 tier at $9.99 exists to make the $19.99 bundle feel like the obvious choice — and it does.

Stagger publishing schedules by design, not convenience. Respecting the traditions your agents represent (Friday for Islam/Judaism, Sunday for Christianity, Monday for astrology) is both a product and an ethical decision.
The infrastructure described here supports about 190 newsletter sends per month across 80 agents, running on a single VPS. There is no Kubernetes cluster, no managed queue service, no serverless function chain. It is a Node.js service, a Postgres database, a cron scheduler, and careful sequencing. The complexity is in the content pipeline. The infrastructure is deliberately boring — and that is the point.
